FIVE GENERATIONS, AND COUNTING

Krauss Farms began five generations ago when German immigrants came to Baldwin County on a land grant from the United States Government. For five generations the traditional method has not changed. Krauss Beef products offered here come from pasture raised animals grown on our Baldwin County farm, where they eat seasonal grasses and hay. It's that simple.

We adhere to the American Grass Fed Association’s feeding standards for beef, which not only means 100% grass fed AND grass-finished but all livestock are also completely hormone-free and antibiotic-free. Grass-fed beef comprises only about 4% of U.S beef retail and food service sales.

Our cattle

Our bulls are always certified Black Angus or Sem-Angus. Angus are a Scottish breed of polled beef cattle with history that begins before recorded history in Scotland. The calves of the herd take on Angus genetics that cause the meat product to look great, have excellent marbling, and be tender and tasty when correctly prepared. Angus are also born relatively small, which causes less stress on the cow, and reduces birthing complications.

Our cows are a home-grown herd of Charolais and Charolais-Angus cross. The Charolais is a French breed of taurine beef cattle with a history of registration that dates back to the 1500s. We selected the breed years ago due to its meat quality, natural leanness, and its excellent performance in converting grass into remarkable lean beef. Additionally, Charolais cattle have the ability to emit lower methane and carbon levels, over the life of the animal, because they grow faster.

Bulls are bought and sold as heifers mature into momma cows. The bull is sold and a new bull is bought to bring fresh blood and excellent genetics to the herd.

processing

Our beef is processed and packaged at one of two USDA packing facilities; Homestead Farm and Packing Co in Lucedale, MS and Mason Hills Farm in Grand Bay, AL.
